Understanding the facts about correct beta fish care is a must for people who have taken the responsibility of owning betta fish. One of the important areas which many people fail to  take account of, resulting in their beta fish growing unhappily, is the native habitat of the beta fish as well as the living environment and conditions in which these fish breed and thrive. Without knowing these areas, you risk overlooking the basic principles of good beta fish care.

Beta fish, as known by most as betta fish or even Siamese fighting fish, are one of the most fascinating and mesmerising types of tropical fish. Because of their unique characteristics and personalities, they have been considered as one of the top choices forpeople keeping freshwater fishes. They are famously prized for their  grand and delightful colours, and their ability to survive in regions with not a lot of water, unlike many other fish.

Beta fish initially came from the country of Thailand, from which comes their name as Siamese fighting fish. Usually located in areas such as shallow rich paddies places or stagnant pools, they have to dwell in places with very low amounts of oxygen in the water. Because of this, when considering beta fish care and the  requirements of taking care of a betta fish, it is essential to take into consideration it’s native habitat and environment. Established experts in the area of beta fish care and beta fish breeding have been able to produce great variation in the colors and patterns of the beta fish in recent times, and so finding a nice beta to complement your home’s colour scheme is not as difficult as it can be with other types of fish.

Going back to the area of beta fish habitat, you often observe beta fish being put on sale in such small fish cups or containers in fish shops, and as a result most people resume the observed trend by placing their bettas in very small containers after acquiring them. On the contrary, it may be a wise choice to introduce your betta fish to a larger beta fish tank instead of restricting it in little small containers which take away a lot of its freedom to move.

Essential facts on beta fish care include understanding the way in which one must appropriately manage their beta fish tanks or beta fish bowls. Testing the level of acidity of the betta fish tank water should be done frequently and regularly, and a often quoted pH range that is preferable to beta fish is between the level of 6.9 and 7.4, with a hardness level of lower than 20 dGH.

Part of the reason why bettas are known to be able to live in low level oxygen conditions is due to the fact that they breathe with oxygen from the water’s surface, rather than depending on the amount of oxygen dissolved in the water. Because of this, you must remember to allow your beta fish to have a passage to emerge up to the surface of the water and breathe for oxygen or else they’ll die.

However, protecting the blocking top of the tank, you still have to put a some sort of lid with air holes in it, as beta fish are known to be able to jump out of the tank. And if you did not put a cover or lid over top of the tank, your beta fish may at any time jump out of their betta fish tanks and die when you are not around…

There are a several things you need to know and learn about caring for beta fish as a betta fish owner… probably more than you thought you would need to know…
